A night of fun, excitement and debauchery (…?!!)

Hey hey hey

What a beautiful Tuesday morning! Yes it’s beautiful because today is supposed to be Monday, but it is Tuesday instead!!! See how great my logical reasoning is! Anyways, my 3 day weekend was pretty good. Not as good as the way I intend it to be, but pretty relaxing. Had nothing to do but shopping for food, barbecuing and eating like a barbarian.

Saturday: I went to the first UCLA football game this season (vs. OklaStateU). First time actually going to a college football game since I never really cared for it. I swear to god I didn’t feel like going at all the night before and even consider trashing my ticket. After a good nite sleep I decided to stay with the plan. Picked up Richard and Cai and drove off to Pasadena. $hee$h Wendy! You live in such a nice area… We couldn’t even find a fast food place around there. We finally settled with a Chinese food combo (though I felt sick afterwards. Looks like I will swear off Chinese food for a while now). Rich and Cai kinda worried that I wouldn’t enjoy the game but it turned out to be okay for me. I mean I’m not a big football fan but I can see how people can get really pumped out for the game. Too bad UCLA fuckin’ sucked balls. We couldn’t stand watching our beloved school get served so badly so we decided to leave during halftime. Yeah, that’s how awesome our school spirit is. Also Nita and I saw ‘Vanity Fair’ last Friday. She hated it. I thought it was so-so. 2 out of 4 stars. Can’t quite recommend it unless you really really love period movies. I like them and I think they can be really interesting and relevant. ‘The Remains of The Day’ and ‘The Age of Innocence’ remain excellent movies; but ‘Vanity Fair’ is just plain messy, pointless and ultimately, confusing. Mira Nair can’t quite decide the tone for her movie and heroine. It wants to be a satire but it rarely bites. It is obvious that Becky is supposed to be some sort of a bitch but Reese is too likeable and Nair clearly wanna make her ‘nicer’ and more affable. So the movie never achieves the goal: portraying how fake and empty the class system is, something that other corset dramas like ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ and ‘The Wings of the Dove’ depict more successfully.

Sunday: barbecue day!!! My friends in OC are such crazy fat-lovers! We made these appetizers using bacon and quail eggs. Not regular bacon, my friends! It’s bacon ends, which have substantially more fat, used to wrap quail eggs. Our grill caught fire while cooking that shit since so much fat dripped underneath. If you want your cholesterol rate to go up the ying yang, try eating that shit. Oh and try consuming a hot dog, bratwurst and a burger afterwards… then you’ll feel like what I did last weekend.

Monday: Chillin day. A bit sad since everything is quiet and calm again but appreciate the chill atmosphere nonetheless. Saw ‘Cape Fear’ on DVD. Man I forgot how scared I was when I saw it as a kid. Yeah, my parents are insane to let me see that movie. But I remember how I appreciate Robert DeNiro so much after that. This was DeNiro at his 2nd renaissance before fumbling back towards the land of junks, such as ‘Showtime’, ’15 Minutes’ and ‘Godsend.’ Jeezus man, we know you can do comedies. But you are so much more fun as a villain or gangsta.

and OH yeah:

DINNER NIGHT at my place on Thursday. Spread da word!

2437 Corinth Avenue Apt. 109

Los Angeles, CA 90064

Bring food/drinks if you want. Details coming soon.

Here we go again: the agony of finding the right words to make this a worthy entry after a 5-month hiatus. Okay, it’s not that I don’t wanna update this baby but I just don’t have the time to. Juggling between studying, internship and other stuff, xanga deserves to take a back seat, even at the cost of betraying my longtime fans (more like A fan since only a ho seems to care anyways). Well now that I’m back living life again and procrascinating at work, what’s better to do than writing a sentence or two? Unfortunately I’ve been having a bad case of writer’s block so to avoid trying to sound interesting and eventually, self-indulgent, instead of writing an essay lemme’ just list things you might wanna know about me or my life lately.

01.  I moved in to my new place with brand-spankin’ new roommates, Thomas and Pat (a girl, btw). Thomas likes studying lately while Pat enjoys talking shit about me. This is going to be a great year.

02.  Thomas only likes to study when he has to. I’m not trying to make him sound like a nerd but the guy will have to go on a monthlong studying marathon for his LSAT.

03.  Pat is an ass, ‘nuff said. And she likes yellow… the color not the song. I like the song.

04.  I live on the border of Palms and West L.A. A slightly ghetto/hip/asian area that is so much better than westwood. I’m pretty stoked about it. And we should be featured in those makeover shows because our apt décor is just fabulous.

05.  I find politics interesting lately.

06.  The GOP convention and most delegates’ speech annoyed me. Their decision to host it at NYC annoyed me even more.

07.  Arnold should really stop using his terminator trademark on every speech he makes.

08.  I cruised around LA to find Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong yellow armband only to find that the stuff is sold out and the only way to get it is through ebay. It’s supposed to be for charity but these ebay-assholes are trying to get 35 bucks for each. That’s as evil as anything Cheney did.

09.  I find politics exhausting lately.

10.  The dinner nights have turned out to be quite pleasant. Next stop is my place. Kids! Take notes: THURSDAY, September 9 is the day you should stop by at 2437 Corinth Avenue Apt. 109 to enjoy a night of delicious food, sleazy poker tournament and a generous dose of booze.

11.  I am officially an alcoholic now.

12.  I still wanna see ‘Garden State’, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’, ‘Before Sunset’, ‘Maria full of Grace’ and ‘The Door on The Floor’. Lemme know if you do.

13.  The Village gets 3 stars out of 4. Manchurian Candidate gets 2.5 out of 4. Harold and Kumar gets 3 out of 4. Collateral gets 3.5 out of 4, and Hero gets 3.5 out of 4.

14.  You’re absolutely right if you have a sense that I have nothing to write about. I’m about to get off work now…

15.  My most sincere condolences go to the relatives of those who died in the Russian school terrorist attack. That is downright callous and inhumane. For those who haven’t heard about it, about 200 ppl including school kids were found dead in a Russian school where Chechen terrorists held hostage for 3 days.

I decided not to talk about the last movie night simply because I still wanna be invited to the Saturday Night Movie Club... For future reference, bring soap... Throw in some soap, bubbles and mayhem should spice things up a little bit...

All I can say is that the last movie night at Rex's/Zee's was a riot! Mix engineers (+premed) and cheap drinks responsibly (or irresponsibly) & you'll get short-circuited brain cells synapsis, exploding with oh-not-so-innocent thoughts... Curious? Join us next time!

I should've been seeing a lot more movies this Summer but since the big studios can only come up with a bunch of really unimpressive sequels, I managed to stay away from the theatres and save myself up some money...

Saw 'American Wedding' yesterday. The movie was alright I guess. Have some outrageously funny and over-the-top gross moments but the movie feels somewhat disjointed. Some of the jokes come out of nowhere and have no relationship with the plot. Some are even tired and dated, like the scene where Finch slipped into the toilet... c'mon everyone in the damn theatre knew it was coming. But some scenes, like the opening scene and the bachelor party scene are examples of superb comic timing and clearly represent how truly funny the movie could have been if only it was handled more consistently. But oh well... the flick is still a hella good fun and romp. (2.5 out of 4)

I'm desparately looking for some adventurous people who are fed up with usual Hollywood offerings and willing to check out these independent and slightly offbeat productions. PLEASE! check out the trailers. You may be in for a big surprise and perhaps they can make you realize that indie films are more creative and fun. If you wanna see one of these movies with me, call me up or leave me a comment, I'm down anytime (just not this weekend. I have LS 3 midterm on monday).
